This thread is for general discussion of the U.S. presidential election scheduled to take place next year.

I know it's going to be well over a year before any actual fun happens, but given that the Democratic field already has twelve total declared candidates (one of them since dropped out), I felt that it wouldn't be much of a bad idea to go ahead and create this thread in advance of the 2020 presidential election.

So anyway, feel free to speculate how the election year might go (though I think we already know).

I hate how we have formal declarations of candidacy in fucking February. Last time most major players at least waited until late April.

This shit should be a one-and-done process from primary to the final election in the span of 9 months at most. I'm convinced half of the reason people get so autistic during the final weeks of the campaign is they've been obsessing over this shit for the past 18 months. This time around it'll be closer to 22, since a lot of the field declared in early January.

Enjoy the next 15 months of Democrat infighting as every minority group in their Grand Coalition squabbles over who the biggest victim is, who hates Trump the most, and who gets to sit atop the progressive stack and be the philosopher king these idiots all envison themselves as.

The democratic primaries should be more enjoyable this time around. Last time it came across as a coronation that was interrupted by Bernie.

2020 will resemble the Virginia Democrats trying to out-do each other by stabbing them in the back. The DNC has completely lost control of the presidential field since Clinton lost to a reality TV star. It will be a lot tougher to rig a primary this time and a lot less cooperation by the candidates since the DNC has been a constant embarrassment and failure. You aren't going to get one rigged primary (having 0 actual candidates and HRC being the sole one, and her only real opponent dropping out and becoming her VP because that's the way it was set up. Bernie was unexpected and the DNC still had to cheat to get HRC the win) because no primary candidate will go along with it because the DNC's stranglehold is broken.

AOC and the Democratic Socialists who were recently elected will continue to be an embarrassment to the Democratic party and try to force the candidates to out-progressive each other since Democratic Socialists are an insurgent party within the Democrats. They do not care about the goals of the party and are 'true believers' in their bullshit. The Democratic base will also demand this and the Democrats will be torn between either out progressiving each other and making them look fucktarded or actually try and go the way the country is going to win.

If HRC enters the race, it will be a total shitshow with her trying to wrangle control of the DNC and destroy all the other candidates. It will only blow the fuck up in the Democrat's faces and she will just be a spoiler. If she wins again, the Dems lose 2020, period. Bernie's been shown to be a dumb cuck who supports the 'Green New Deal' which was a total laughing stock of a bill. His momentum is functionally dead, just like HRC's was. People feel betrayed by him and its kind of impossible to build that sort of momentum again, especially when this avowed Socialist has three houses and is pretty wealthy. Warren is a massive bomb waiting to happen and she has so much shady shit in her past the other primary candidates will fall on her with knives if she takes the lead. Booker has pissed off teacher's unions, so they're just waiting to go in on him. Joe Biden is a living meme at this point and I don't really see it working out for him.

The candidate from Hawaii is the only decent one the Democrats have, she's moderate, level-headed, smart and former military. Which is why she'll never win the primary. Basically, the nomination comes down to who survives the Democratic night of long knives. And then they go up against Trump, who basically had the Democrats do opposition research for him and he smashes them in the face with whatever they had previous.

Warren announced because it was obvious she wasn't getting money. If you plan your run, you can collect money before you declare and kind of skirt campaign finance. This is only if rich donors think you're a contender however. If not, you basically announce as soon as you think its possible so people can start donating. The candidate from Hawaii announced early because she's the dark horse in the race and honestly the best candidate for the job by far, so she needs to build grass roots efforts as soon as possible. The later announcements are people who are getting funded.

The Democratic debates will be a battle for the most exceptional. If the Democrats keep trying to appeal to progressives, they’re going to run into the same problems from 2016. The only differences now are more candidates and a doubling down of the ORANGE MAN BAD! rhetoric.

I personally don't really like Trump and I'm exhausted from this media shitshow. But with that said, I will be thrilled to watch him completely eviscerate the joke that the DNC has become. Sure, another four years of autistic screeching, overly-biased news sources, and TDS is going to be draining to have to listen to day after day but these chucklefucks need to get it through their heads that they cannot run a race through egos, asspatting, and shady shit. Let them get punished again and again if they can't get it through their thick skulls.

Let all the poisons that lurk in the mud hatch out.

Another woman entered the race today. The DNC debates will start in June and there will be six in 2019 and six in 2020. The group of candidates will be divided in two and there will be separate debates on back to back nights.
Jesus Christ they're fucking desperate for ratings. There shouldn't even BE debates this year, goddammit!

I'm experiencing the politisperg equivalent of RLM's "ENDLESS TRASH!" meme.

They'd run her in a heart beat. The problem with AOC is that she has absolutely no campaign experience and hasn't even won an election. AOC won basically by an insurgency. She basically herself admitted if she was in a normal primary, she would have placed third. Her election was basically in a solid blue district that no Republican ever had a chance in. So she won by just existing.

So not only would she have to fight in a real primary, she'd have to fight in a real campaign. That'd be a huge problem. The 35 thing is an archaic hold-over and definitely too high.
