The problem is, with autism, the firm hand only works before this point. You can't teach a 40 year old autistic the same things you can teach a young autistic kid. Chris absolutely should've gotten more hands on, special care at a young age. A school for kids with autism would've done wonders for him. Hell, he may have even lived the life he wanted: Married, a kid, a decent job.
Barb and Bob were far more concerned with their image. They're old as hell, and back in their day, having an autistic kid would've been a blow to their reputation. I don't think either were all too concerned with what was best for Chris, I think they just wanted what made them look/feel best.
That said, there are instances in which I feel you can see Bob have doubts. I think, as it became clear mainstreaming didn't work, Bob tried as hard as a man his age could to teach Chris how to be an adult, but that's the problem with autism: You gotta start young.

Ok, so, anytime you talk about Chris when talking about this issue, replace it with "my elderly grandmother".
Chris will never be an old lady, nor will he ever provoke as much sympathy. Tough love is a lot more appropriate with Chris, and sending the message to him that he's always a victim is BS and only creates more problems.
The comparison is about mental fortitude. Saying Chris should've known better is the same thing as saying your grandmother who got ripped off by a nigerian prince should've known better.
When people talk about "victimhood mentality", it's in situations when the person isn't actually a victim. A woman who was glanced at on the subway who cries rape is not a genuine victim. Chris, however, is a genuine victim.
The difference is my grandmother actually used to be something and someone who would not have fallen for this BS. Even in real life, not every old lady is going to fall for this BS. Comparing Chris to someone who nurtured children and grandchildren who got married and had a husband is BS. I feel sorry for little old ladies because they are fallen from grace as nurturers and capable adults not because they're fundamentally damaged like Chris.
I also feel sorry for old ladies because they have more potential than people give them credit for, and a lot of them are wise, which is the opposite of Chris.
As far as victimhood goes, you're the one who said that Chris has it engrained into his psyche. And by the way, this wasn't an old lady falling for a Nigerian scammer. This was a retarded adult male falling to the delusions of his own psyche over a long period of time.
I feel sympathy for Chris, but not as much as I'd feel for an old lady.
I don't know, to me, being the victim of a crime shouldn't be any more or less significant because of their social stratum. Chris is retarded and some fucked up people took advantage of that for profit. That should be all that matters.

That would make sense if it didn't happen over and over again. We're always judged on our social stratum, and it's just not me who thinks that this situation is BS, the police also don't want involvement in it either. Like I said, I do feel bad for Chris because no one deserves this type of treatment. However, asking everyone to adopt your worldview on CWC is tantamount to SJW logic. Tough love is way more more valuable in this situation, and if Chris can't learn through that, he needs to be in a group home. Why? Because the world is filled with autistic wolves.

Chris is substantially more famous than almost all of the people on this forum will ever be in their lives. He is not subjected to reasonable pressures.
That's an unfortunate consequence of society. No one holds that up as a virtue. It's one thing to view selfishness or similar behavior as a natural outcome of a system, but it's pretty assholish to take the next step and say "hey, I personally think this person is more deserving of a crime than this other person because of social stratum".
No police take internet crime seriously. Anyone coming to the police with a similar crime would get the same response because local police don't have the resources to do anything.

Has a civil suit been considered? I know the ideal is to get them arrested for the shitty things they did, but if Chris could find a lawyer willing to help him, he could potentially fuck their entire world up. All the money he was swindled, could probably tack on some additional money for pain and suffering. If he can't get the cops to take it seriously, the least that he should try to do is get his money back.
