I can't tattoo this into every member of this site, but I would if I could.
Look, there's a lot of room for argument and discussion, but this should be the core of it.
Like it or not, consider the following statement:
Chris is substantially mentally impaired and does not possess a firm grasp of reality. His ability to determine truth from fiction is tenuous at best and he can be forced to act on ideas that are not real.
If you assess that to be true, then the indisputable reality is that people took someone with the aforementioned handicap and terrorized him for the purpose of financial gain. This is ethically indefensible, even by our admittedly lax standards.
Chris may indeed be an idiot. Perhaps he should've known better. He's certainly been fucked with before. The reality remains that people knowingly exploited someone with substantial mental impairment to enrich themselves financially.
If you're okay with that, I don't know if there's any productive conversation to be had. Is it just open fucking season? Anyone can do anything to him and it's fine? We can threaten him for money, threaten him with violence, do anything and it's okay because he's a lolcow? Can we just mug him with a knife? Hold a gun to his pets?
Where's the line, if not here?
While I certainly agree that every bit of what happened in the sordid Idea Guy affair is over the line, it really amazes me that the extortion of money specifically is what makes this unbearable for some people.
Not to be too much of an anticapitalist fuckhead, but there are things in life that are way more important than money: peace of mind, a basic sense of bodily integrity, etc. Trolls have been deliberately depriving Chris of these things for as long as trolling has been a thing.
It's just like the situation with BlueSpike ... why were people so eager to discount the psychic damage that had been inflicted by everyone who came before him, and only pumped the brakes once it became overtly sexual and physical?
When it comes down to it, manipulating the mentally handicapped for entertainment will always exact a toll on the target. If you don't have an issue with that until it involves sex or money or physical violence, you need to recalibrate your moral compass.
That's not what makes it especially reprehensible. That's just what makes it actually criminal.

I think, these days, we recognize that that shit was probably not the best to do. Internet trolling was weird back in the day, and nobody on this forum is the same person they were when they discovered it, save for maybe the 15 year olds off for summer.
So the short answer? A lot of that shit wasn't okay either, it's why we make it clear that we aren't the troll Illuminati.
Having worked as a caregiver in a mental health home for adults, I think Chris-Chan needs more help than they could provide for him. I will have to lean towards a skilled nursing ward for the mentally disturbed as they have the training to deal with such exceptional individuals.
That would require them to be motivated by anything other than their selfish sociopathy.
Thank goodness we've always had special needs institutions for special needs kids to help them through that. Parents of special needs kids need to realize how these institutions will benefit them and their children in the long run.

Just found the CWCki yesterday and I want to send a hands out to everyone that put all the effort into getting all of that information. Also, the time and effort put into that. Well done. I hope the site survives. However, that not the main reason for my comment. I had NEVER heard about this guy until yesterday. I am not joking. I have been in IT for 20 years. I guess I just didn't hang in the trolls groups, or... I was working??? I don't know.. Anyway, I have gotten through all of the material, and I don't plan to.
Chris Chan somehow freaks me out like Richard Speck (If you've ever seen that prison video) I'll get to the point... If you really read the dialogue through the Bluespike transcript, at the end "Clyde" is even attempting to talk to Chris, but when Bluespike jumps in and directly addresses Chris with a question or a statement, Chris responds immediately. I honesty think that Chris Chan LIKED the be handled like than. His parents didn't seem to discipline him and it seems this has grown into a sick perversion.
I think Chris LIKED/Even thrived how the Idea Guys were treating him. (How do you know he didn't mind paying them to continue to play our the role play?) It seems as if he enjoys the dominance over him. I'm sure a lot of what happened to him in the past greatly affected him, but there is no taking that back now. What people did to him, they cannot take back. I don't think he will ever live a normal life, and I think he will actually SEEK out behavior like the idea guys. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if one of those guys wouldn't have turned out to be Bluespike. That was just sick there, and no one seems to bring up the fact there were adults grooming a 13 year old to troll a man for pedophilia .... Yep, NO ONE talks about that. YOU ALL listened in!!! Egged it on!! All of it is just sick for all involved.
And Null grows a "heart" over Idea Guys?? C'mon. Null, you stated it crossed the line as it was illegal, and taking advantage of a mentally ill person. Well, isn't your forum members grooming a 13 year old boy to basically phone rape a mentally ill man illegal? You can't have it both ways. Grow some morals!

First off, let me address some of the more foolish aspects of your false assumptions.
This forum did not even exist when a 13 year old "tortured" Chris.
Second, Chris was badly served in the maintenance of his sanity prior to being trolled. Whether it made it worse is up for debate, but he was already badly off by the time he got trolled, and if anything, it made him more paranoid of most garden variety trolling, so in a way, he grew wiser from it, though one could argue how he obtained the knowledge may not have been the best way to get it.
Third, reality is often stranger than fiction, and if you really have been around as long as you say, I'm sure this should have occurred to you at some point.
