More like "empathetic and caring" people who already have shit lives due to something out of their control shouldn't have more shit heaped on them. I mean fuck them right. They shouldn't have gotten old or had physical or mental problems.

The vast, vast majority of people on welfare are not in the group of people you keep fucking championing. As well, you're acting as if though the elderly are interested in going out and buying luxury food items, when it's very likely they're just happy to not have had a visit from ol' grim yet, and the mentally ill have more problems than having to eat cereal that isn't Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

Also, on top of that, you're acting as if though people having to cook their own meals is such a horrible, horrible thing. Oh, the humanity! Someone will have to actually fucking make their food!

This, this right here is what should be done in my opinion.

Not everyone on welfare can work, which has kind of been my whole point here.

Also the government has been working on getting rid of recipients that can work but don't because they're lazy as shit(at least in my state that is). They've set up programs to help them get a job and if they don't submit a report every week on what they applied for and what interviews they went to they get kicked off. Not sure how effective it is but it is something. Other states probably have something like it too. Also I don't think many people in this thread are aware of how much it would cost to ship food boxes everywhere. It would probably be over 1 billion dollars.

I'd have to read more into this but based on the main post it looks like they'll be doing it similarly to food pantries where they select the food for you. If this is what they're doing I approve, tbh. Especially if it's done to give you more nutritious things that people SHOULD be spending their food stamps on.

My cousin used to work in a casino and he told me people would waste their food stamps there every day.

Well if the U.S. govt wasn't such a clusterfuck of idiots when it came to anything getting done, what I'd like to see is the entire EBT system curtailed to actually only include base ingredients, like plain rice, beans, flour, ground beef, etc. What I'm happy about with this is that at least it's a start to ending the endless abuse of the EBT system by most of the people using it.

This guy gets it, I liken the idea to a food pantry in a box, should the government not fuck it up royally.

Can you give us some stats and numbers on how many people abuse this system?

I never said luxury food items. As a matter of fact I said if the boxes contained fresh produce, meat, and dairy I'm fine with it. I would even be fine with generic products. Fuck I eat generic products myself. Asking people to live on powdered milk and canned meat in a first world country is bullshit.

This is the way it is in my state too and in my opinion it is the better solution. That being said I'm out. When it was civil discussion and debate it was fun. When I get called out for championing the elderly, disabled, and children it becomes ridiculous. Because fuck actually giving a shit I guess Luckily as shown up thread this was a bluff by trump and more than likely isn't gonna happen.

Instead, the idea, according to two administration officials who worked on the proposal, was a political gambit by fiscal hawks in the administration aimed at outraging liberals and stirring up members of the president’s own party working on the latest version of the farm bill. The move, they said, was intended to lay down a marker that the administration is serious about pressing for about $85 billion in other cuts to food assistance programs that will be achieved, in part, by imposing strict new work requirements on recipients./SPOILER]

It would at least lessen the chance of poor people eating food that's bad for you because they have less money. This is an argument I've seen people say about the problems with being poor. I've had to use food pantries before and at least with food pantries you get fruit, grains, bread and vegetables and other things that's recommended with the food groups. If the government doesn't fuck it up, I can see it being better than people just spending their SNAP cards on whatever they want.

Yeah hold on let me trawl through every poor neighborhood in the country for you real quick.

Seriously, anybody who's been around people that are on EBT can pretty much sum it up for you that that's what's going on.

Anyway:

And then you got shit like this.

I'd consider this unjustifiable

Silly Jane, you know facts and evidence are like kryptonite to edgelords who want everyone else's lives to be even shittier than their own.

Silly Jane, you know that people who've never set a single foot in a poor neighborhood let alone knew anybody from one intimately know what's best for them!

One of the assumptions that politicians and nonprofits and other dogoodniks make, constantly, is that if poor people just had access to vegetables and other healthy food, they would all happily eat them and stop eating McDonald's and the obesity crisis would be solved and healthcare costs would go down and blah blah blah. I really don't think this is true. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Did you READ that Time article you quoted?

While critics still like to use old arguments of rampant abuse to lambast a program that feeds millions of Americans, the fraud rate has decreased from “about 4 cents on the dollar in 1993 to about 1 cent” by 2006.

And this decline has only continued, with the 3.5% rate of fraud in 2012 reducing to less than 1.5% today.

I wouldn't call 1.5% the vast, vast majority.

ETA:

The other articles also debunk your claims. Two are about stores defrauding the SNAP program, and here's a choice quote from the getoutofdebt article:

The disturbing part of all the claims of benefit and welfare fraud is that there appears to be little support to backup the urban tales.

Logically some amount of waste, fraud, or abuse must exist. But evidence of massive fraud can’t be found.

Just because you don't want poor people to eat shitty pizza does not fraud make.

Even if the US federal government didn't fuck it up (which they would, they fuck up pretty much everything they touch), the huge amount of funding and employees required to harvest, process, pack, ship, store, and accurately deliver all those Trumptard food boxes to the millions and millions of people in the US who are on food stamps would cost the government far, FAR more (in both the short and the long term) than just giving out the EBT cards as they are now.

Also, what happens if we set up this system, and then the federal government goes through one of its now-annually scheduled shutdowns? Millions of Americans just don't get food that month?

Well to be fair to you, I didn't specifically mean outright fraud of the system, I said abuse, as in, in general. Like buying your kids a shitload of junk food instead of actually using it simply as a means to feed your family. Hence why I linked the ridiculous EBT pizza photo.

Maybe you should actually read the articles you're citing to defend your bullshit arguments next time?

If poor people had access to job education on the internet, then they will stop watching porn and cat videos. That's why every young adult you see with a smartphone is a expert level programmer in Python, C++, and Java.

I would hardly call "they didn't buy the food I want them to buy" abuse of the system. SNAP is to buy food. If they're buying food, it's not abuse, regardless of the quality of food they're buying.

dunno if anyone pointed it out already, but the "overly liberal" EU already does this.

they give these long conservation, no label and not sellable packaged food to those in the poorest section of society. It's essential things like m.ilk, beans, cookies for little children, meat in cans and rice. My aunt receives and uses these. They don't taste that great but in such situations you're just glad to have food in your plate
