I get the feeling you just did some unintentional foreshadowing.

Sounds to me like it's going to be a live action movie, which in itself seems like a terrible idea. Borderlands already had a cool, cell shaded style, it'd actually look great as a 2D animated film. It also brings up the question of actors and what it's going to be about. If they're smart it'll have Handsome Jack because he's about the most popular character they ever made, but I've got no idea who could play him.
Roth likes to employ very unsubtle toilet humor similar to Troma.

Thi might not be of much interest but a woman by the name Caroline Flack cimmited suicide on February 15 before going to trial for allegedly beating her ex fiance. If ou go to the hashtag you'll find people wither mourning her passing, calling her an abuser or a victim.

Randy decided to give his 2 cents on the situation and by 2 cents I mean Randy being vaguely telling people to look at the hastag.

Caroline Flack has a bit of a history behind her - I think everyone will agree they didn't want her to die, just wanted her to take responsibility for her actions.

She hosted the UK version of Love Island, but was also well known for dating guys in their late teens and early 20's such as Harry Styles from One Direction. Which is weird but hey, not the first time someone in the UK media has liked em young.

Current boyfriend at time of assault was a tennis player who was 24 year old to her 40. The "mistake" she made during a row was taking up the lamp from the bedside table and smashing it into her boyfriends head. Previous ex's also piped up around this time to say that they literally had to sign NDA's while dating her, and could only say the relationship was "Toxic"

Worth noting that the boyfriend didn't press charges and backed her up. It was local concerned neighbors that called the cops when they heard yelling and screaming.

In any case, it was a first domestic offense and she's a celeb - so the courts would of likely just given her some anger management classes. ITV dropped her from Love Island, but they might of taken her back in a year or two if she just focused on cleaning up her act.

That said, they generally say that trying to deduce the reason someone decides to suicide ignores that usually it's not got a cause, just someone's so in the dark that they are convinced they have no right to keep on living.

Of course if this was a guy everyone would talk about how cowardly he was to choose death over just taking a jail sentence ect.

The search for more money.

I'm not into horror movies so I don't know much about this director, but I'd be willing to bet he's the cheapest guy they could get with any sort of prior experience. It's going to be an extremely cheap and bad movie that tries to sell itself based on nostalgia and lol so quirky humour. A borderlands movie in general is a terrible idea, since it's a very much gameplay focused series.

If I had to guess, I'd say this is Randy's attempt at growing his media empire.
I'm not sure a "search for more money" should include a movie based on a video game - something that's notoriously unprofitable. Unless Randy is getting paid for the rights for the movie and getting paid upfront, he's an absolute moron.

I haven't read the whole thread, but did the USB drive of porn ever make it home safe and sound? Sorry, that's just a nightmare scenario that hits home for me. God bless.
I'm sorry for you but I think Randy destroyed it to cover his tracks given he made it "disappear" by "magic tricks"

Well I think a lot of recent films have shown that video game movies can be profitable. Aside from that, I'm betting that they'll try and make the Borderlands movie something like the MCU in terms of action and comedy. Except they've already missed their window with that.

If Gearbox sold the rights to Netflix to do a cool cel-shaded animated series, I think you could make it work although you’d have to throw Anthony’s Reddit meme dialog in the trash can and start over. Do something like Castlevania, but stupid.

But as a live action movie? This will make Doom Annihilation look good.

A comedy set in a Mad Max kind of world can work but is there demand for a Borderlands movie? No.

I can't wait until Jim Sterling makes the insanely obvious 'joke' about how the BL film is shit and then talks about it for 2 hours straight about his shit it is

Only way I would be interested in this is if it was Cel Shaded or had a much better director attached. Eli Roth seems like an awful choice, possibly just chosen because he was cheap and seems 'cool' enough to be attractive to potential viewers of a film based on this IP.

Personally I hope Randy puts all the money he embezzled into the film and that it tanks.

The only video game movie that I can think of as "profitable" in the last 20+ years were the Resident Evil movies and those were just insane action films with a vaguely Resident Evil vibe, but I wouldn't even be surprised if they weren't majorly profitable because of how much the cast was making.

A lot of the "break out" movies for Video Games (Warcraft, Assassin's Creed, Detective Pikachu, Rampage) still didn't make a lot of money or even (allegedly) lost a little bit.

Apparently, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie is doing quite well, actually. Even better than Detective Pikachu.

That same movie also recently incurred a very large jump in it's budget due to the full re-CGI of the main character. I'm not saying that it's impossible to make money on a videogame movie, but it's really hard to do and very frequently ends in failure. Sonic is doing well because it got tons of press, they put a bunch of passion into it, and the audience is vast and supportive.

Borderlands doesn't have nearly the same mass appeal as Pokemon (Pikachu) or Sonic and they're going to struggle to find an audience for this movie. The plot/setting isn't movie-worthy and there's no appeal for kids, either. Borderlands is also an ultra-violent setting - meaning they have to cut all of that out and lean on the story to try and get a PG rating or try and make it work while restricted to an "R" audience, neither being a recipe for success.

I'm shocked that this got greenlit by anyone, considering the cost involved and the inherent risks associated with rated "R" movies.

I'm honestly a bit annoyed, because I think Borderlands could work quite well as an adult cartoon. The main characters have a good dynamic and are all interesting, and the setting would lend itself well to a violent, over the top action series with loads of corny jokes. If they made a 12 episode season I think it could get enough attention to be profitable, especially since it wouldn't have much competition in that medium.

actually look great as a 2D animated film
Considering the whole aesthetic and a bunch of the character concepts were lifted wholesale from a animated short film called Codebreakers (Borderlands actually starting out as a generic pseudo-realistic brown/grey FPS) this could open a huge can of worms if a lolyer somehwere smells blood.

Cartoons are also expensive and risky (hence why you see not a lot of variety there) so it could quite possibly tank hard. Borderlands would have another, extra massive challenge in profitability if they went the cartoon route. "Smaller" cartoons (like RWBY) make a bunch of their profit on merchandise related to the franchise - borderlands is already an established franchise with merchandise so they wouldn't be able to go much harder into that route, as borderlands shirts, hats, and whatever already exist.

Borderlands also has a really messy plot and I'm not sure what you could do with it. The franchise has essentially ~11 main characters (all of the "main" PCs, minus Roland) and like ~30 supporting characters (DLCs PCs, side characters, villians), a mascot character (Claptrap) and a huge stretch of canon (~5 games). It's going to be a very large challenge to make something that works for both existing and new borderlands fans.

It isn't impossible, but I don't see anyone with the ability not just working with a different, cleaner, more established IP.
