his passive aggresive jabs towards Redlettermedia and it's Plinkett reviews are pretty amusing

The way this guy is so obsessed with one oddly specific game to the point of treating it like a lifestyle is extremely fascinating to me. He's not even just obsessed with a franchise, Super Mario Brothers 3 is his life. It is greater than food, shelter, and water. I can't think of any other lolcow who goes that far with their weird obsession with something.

What bothers me the most is that you can tell he doesn't believe in the social justice movement he's shilling for. I don't think he even understands the words he's saying. It's just a platform where he deems it acceptable to spew hatred for cisgender white men. I get a very Chris-eque vibe from Bob in that there's some kind of underlying problem he has with a group that he's (in reality) biologically a part of, and it's grown to the point where they need to destroy said group. All the while blind to the fact that they're not the pinnacles of mankind that they think they are.

Bob seems to enjoy trying to push reactionary neckbeards' buttons.

I mean, I can get that, 'cause it's pretty funny, but coming from a dude who compared Super Mario Brothers 3 to being as major an event as 9/11, it's like, dude.

You are the demons.

Dramatic Reading of his SMB 3 book
]

Wait so Yahtzee Croshaw has written 2 novels (One of which, Mogworld, is a very good read for a first time author, haven't read Jam yet) and his co-worker who also gets paid to write and record reviews, produces a meandering monologue about a video game he rather liked as a child with all the wit, cohesion and conciseness of something Chris Chan would write? Seriously this sounds almost exactly like some of Chris' videos.

To be fair, Bob Chipman is alright when he talks about esoteric 80s cartoons, hit-and miss when he criticizes movies, bad when he talks about video games and absolutely unbearable when he advocates social justice. I always thought he was an okay, if extremely nerdy, person till he threw a tantrum over GamerGate. That whole event really brought out the worst in a lot of people. MovieBob demonstrates that quite well: If you want to see a person at his worst listen to him when he thinks he has the moral high ground.

Didn't think he was that much of a jerk.
Respectfully disagree with you on your first point. Bob, like Andrew Dobson, has an annoying tendency to inflate the importance of cartoon canon as if its some sort of holy, pure force when it was just a form of advertisement. His obsession over the Mario cartoon paints this in a clear light, and you can see from the new Yoshi's Island game that he continues, even as an adult, to assert this ridiculous mindset that these cartoons are the pinnacle of storytelling aimed at children.

Beyond that, he's just unbelievably full of himself regarding content he discusses. I'm unsure of how anyone can make it through one of his videos, even if they skip all of his asinine skips, because rather than him sharing his opinions, his videos are him preaching at the audience. This is really notable in his Other M video (which I still haven't watched all the way through, good fucking lord). Mind you, this isn't as bad in his cartoon videos, but that smugness persists.

So I'm sorry, you seem cool. But I totally have to disagree on the 'alright' vibe about cartoons, or even the hit or miss thing. What movie has he ever given a well-worded review? He's a consumer of content who believes that his massive quantity of consumption somehow means he's an expert in those fields.

I thought the whole point of the new social justice movement was to spew hatred for cisgender white men, and for cisgender white men to absolve themselves of their unholy privileges by spewing hate at other cisgender white men.

Congratulations on getting through his videos in the first place :epik:.

"But the climactic reveal of SMB3 is burned – no, seared – into my memory the way JFK’s assassination was for my parents’ generation… or the way 9/11 would be for mine a scant 12 years from then…"
Let that sink in for a moment shall we, 2,977 died because of 9/11, Chris Chan may have compared someone's family member's death to his dog dying, but he's said said fucking sonic or pokemon are as significant as a US president or nearly 3000 people dying. I think we may have made a wiki about the wrong guy.
