Will the 2020s be a better decade than the 2010s?

Trump's election demonstrated that the decline of civil society (I mean the community between the individual and the state, I don't mean polite society) has broadened to the right. This is troubling. A large portion of the country feels alone, lost, and disconnected from their community. When this happens they turn to the state to solve their problems. However as has been repeatedly shown throughout history radical centralization of power doesn't work. One person can only know the wants and needs of so many other people. Distributed power through local communities is far better, as local communities can respond faster and with higher fidelity to local problems than federal agencies can.

I see this degradation as a trend that will only continue to grow. As there is a greater and greater disconnect from local communities more and more people will be turning towards centralized power, towards the state, as the solution to their problems. People will continue to deify leaders rather than view them as people, people will continue to defend people based on tribal alignment rather than virtue. This will cause the defense of worse mistakes, which will let these leaders get away with more horrible shit. I don't think we're going to get textbook socialism or nazism or fascism, but whatever it is it won't be good. Centralized power at scale doesn't work.

Our democracy has lost its virtue, and a democracy without virtue is a tyranny, one way or another.

I don't think that'll happen either, but man, you've got the left openly calling for our president to be shot, Democrats openly throwing away the system of due process, attempting a coup within the Trump Administration, spying on the president and talking about ending the electorial college. Insane. Malevolent. Treasonous. Bullshit, out for all to see, it's not ridiculous to say that a war is coming (we're in a culture war right now, but I mean real war). Now this is not a call to arms, but when you have a party so engulfed in corruption that they're trying to seize back power by any means, we're all in deep shit. The lunatics want to burn down the asylum and hunt for blood.

Democracy in America hasn't failed yet, but give it a few years. We're in for a wild ride

These issues have become so tiresome i often find myself growing quite fond of the past before this crazy cultural chaos train just wishing this would just stop, but it keeps on going and going with no hopes of slowing down.
Tell me about it, I miss the days when it didn't seem like everything was flying off the rails as well.

I’m starting to think that’s really the only way back to sanity. Trumpism/adjacent types and SJWism are two sides of the same cancer, they feed each other so one can never defeat the other. Kill one and the other dies as it has no fuel, no raison d être. Trumpists cant rail against SJWs that don’t exist restricting their freedoms, and SJWs can’t rail against non existent Trumpists restricting their rights
I know what you mean, I like Trump and think he's getting treated unfairly, but the temptation is nevertheless there to vote him out simply because the climate under him is so toxic and it's all just so tiresome.

It feels like a merry go round that I may be ready to just get off of or as WOPR says in War Games "the only winning move is not to play"

I am no big fan of Trump, and consider myself more left, and I agree with you 100% on this point. At this point its not so much pro-Trump/anti-Trump, it's what kind of effect Trump has on politics or the zeitgeist in general that's exhausting. After a while you just want to change the channel to something maybe a bit more boring but watchable.

If anyone at all thinks that this derangement and twitter wokefest will die with Trumps administration you are completely wrong. Doesn't matter who it is, the next Republican frontrunner is going to be hitler 4.0 like Trump was 3.0 and Dubya 2.0. It isnt going to stop if they get their way on this one. Look how the left has already been demanding a mile every time someone gives them an inch. This momentum cannot be reversed so long as the same people are in power, Trump or no Trump.

That is what it comes down to is it's best to simply not give them what they want.

Because you're right, SJWs were already gaining a lot of steam under Obama.
